On the evening of Friday, July 18, 2008 the Founding Director of Ve’ahavta, Avrum Rosensweig suffered a heart attack. An angioplasty was performed and Avrum is now on the road to recovery. While he will take some time to rest and recuperate, he has every intention of returning to the office in the near future.Ve’ahavta’s Board of Directors and senior staff would like to remind our donors, clients, partners, volunteers and other stakeholders that we remain committed to our mission. As the Canadian humanitarian and relief organization, Ve’ahavta is motivated by the Jewish values of Tzedakah/Justice, and will continue to assist the needy at home and abroad, through volunteerism, education, and acts of kindness, while building bridges between Jews and other peoples.

We are committed to a long-term development plan that insures the sustainability of our projects, and benefits our clients, partners and volunteers. In Avrum’s absence and upon his return, we will continue to encourage all people to play a significant role in Tikun Olam (repairing the world) both in Canada and around the world.

“For a Jew, Judaism and humanity must go together…The mission of the Jewish people has never been to make the world more Jewish, but to make it more human.” – Elie Wiesel, Nobel Peace Laureate and 2007 Starry Nights Keynote Speaker.

As a gesture of support and best wishes to Avrum, the Board of Directors have established a “Get Well Soon” fund. Proceeds from this fund will go to Ve’ahavta, the organization that Avrum founded over 11 years ago.
