How to Give: Call 416.964.7698 at Ext. 10 to contact Karen Levy or call our CRISIS RESPONSE hotline at Ext. 14. You can also e-mail Karen at karen@veahavta.org.
You can also give online. All online gifts made between January 28 and February 28, 2009 will go towards the
Am Yisrael Chai fund, unless stipulated otherwise.

THE CRISIS: The injured and suffering because of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza

The recent fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza is one episode in the long and tragic conflict in the Middle East. The most recent outburst of the conflict has seen Hamas sending thousands of rockets across the border, precipitating an Israeli incursion into Gaza, and a subsequent ceasefire, sporadically broken by Hamas. The increase in number and sophistication of Hamas’ rockets has now put 700,000 Israelis in southern Israel within striking distance.

VE’AHAVTA’S PARTNER: The Soroka University Medical Center

During the recent fighting in Gaza, Hamas rockets reached Be’er Sheva. The Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva is Israel’s second largest hospital, serving one million people with a reach from Ashkelon to Eilat.

During the fighting, the Soroka Medical Center was on high alert, creating unexpected deficits due to cancelled leave and overtime that occurs during an extended crisis. At the same time, medical equipment was used up before its normal expiry date and is now in serous need of replacement and augmentation.

Act now for their need is great.

We do not rejoice in victories. We rejoice when a new kind of cotton is grown and when strawberries bloom in Israel.
