Ve’ahavta is looking for volunteers for our Lita and Mikey’s Newcomers Homework Club taking place at Briar Hill Junior Public School in Lawrence Heights on Tuesdays from 3:30 – 5:00! You will be providing innovative one-on-one  tutoring for underprivileged students from primary school through to high school who are experiencing difficulty in any subject. Children are matched with a tutor who suits their learning style. Volunteers will be provided with training. Supervision and school supplies will be provided on site.

Who We Need: Dedicated and professional volunteers over 16 yrs old who have an interest in education, and are committed to having a positive impact on a child’s life. Math skills are an asset, though not a requirement. Providing one-on-one mentoring is a large component of this placement.

Guyana Summer Kinder Kit Youth Program August 7th-August 21st, 2011
Ve’ahavta has been working in Guyana since 1997 in partnership with the Lions Club of Bartica. The Ve’ahavta-Lions Kinder Kit Youth Program 2011 is recruiting volunteers to support in developing and providing creative educational programs for youth aged 7-14 of Bartica and the surrounding areas. Key areas of programming include: arts and crafts, literacy and creative-writing, music (guitar, keyboard, singing), sports (football, cricket, volleyball), mathematics, and computer skills.

Guyana Medical Mission October 23rd – November 6th, 2011
Ve’ahavta has been working to improve standards of healthcare delivery and education in Guyana since 1997. Volunteers participate in a community-based medical development model in Regions 7 & 2 where the team provides clinical care to local patients through mobile clinics with emphasis on preventative health education, particularly sexual health education, diabetes, hypertension, oral hygiene, and maternal/infant health.  Volunteers travel together under the supervision of a Ve’ahavta field officer.

South Africa Kinder Kit Mission November 7th-November 21st, 2011
The Kinder Kits program aims to provide educational supplies to underprivileged children. Without the proper tools to learn, a child’s success is dramatically decreased. 150,000,000 children around the world leave school illiterate and 1 in 6 children live in poverty in Canada. Ve’ahavta has committed to providing Kinder Education Kits containing the necessary supplies for a child’s academic year to impoverished communities around the world through our local and international partners. Volunteers will be aiding in the distribution of 3,000 Kinder Kits in Kenya alongside our Ve’ahavta Site Coordinator and partners, as well as participating in a range of activities including volunteering in Ma’Afrika Tikkun’s feeding programs, community centres, community-based caregivers programs and youth development programs.

Volunteers will be aiding in the distribution of 2,500 Kinder Kits in Kenya alongside our Ve’ahavta Site Coordinator and partners, as well as participating in a range of activities including volunteering in MCI’s feeding programs, slum relief, and youth education and vocational training programs.

GUYANA – HEALTH AND EDUCATION

Help the Children, Guyana Pediatric Residency Training Project

Ve’ahavta is now recruiting pediatricians (including residents) to teach physicians in Guyana as part of a Post-Graduate Degree in Pediatrics. This project is being run in partnership with Help the Children, Guyana; Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation; and the University of Guyana School of Medicine and Faculty of Health Science.

Volunteer commitment: 1-2 weeks

Location: Georgetown, Guyana

Placement period: This is a “rolling” placement option, meaning that there is a good deal of flexibility to accommodate the schedules of individual volunteers.

Costs: Volunteers are responsible for covering the costs of airfare, insurance, and food. Ground transportation, accommodations and security are provided by the Project.

Ve’ahavta has been working in Guyana for 13 years in the areas of health and education and are thrilled to be supporting this partnership initiative, which will provide training and support to Guyanese physicians.

If eyes are the windows to a person’s soul, a website is the window into an organization’s soul. We are looking for someone to help us to continue to deliver our message through our innovative and interactive website. If you are web savvy and can volunteer on a weekly or daily basis, this might be the volunteer position for you.  Experience with WordPress managing software is an asset but not necessary.

SOCIAL MEDIA EXPERT

Do you see your Facebook “friends” more than your next door neighbours? We want you! We are looking for a social media expert to help us develop our social media strategy on Facebook , Twitter, and other social media tools.  Help us expand our network and online communities, stimulate conversations, and deliver an inspiring message.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER

If the artist in you wants to use your talent to inspire others, and to deliver the message of “tikun olam”, we want to hear from you. Experience developing print materials required.

MEDIA COORDINATOR

Ve’ahavta is heading into exciting new territory in the form of media productions. If you want to play a part in this new initiative – from inception to production -  by helping us raise our voices and deliver our message, contact us today.  Experience with online media such as webcasts, pod casts, video and photo editing would be an asset.
